I have found that this standard is being queried and discussed quite a lot!
1.4 Manage a situation where professional standards may have been breached
There are worries about finding relevant examples and also concerns about describing sensitive issues. A few people have mentioned things that may have cropped up when working with parent helpers, students, work experience volunteers etc. Maybe situations relating to health and safety, confidentiality or safeguarding.
As for sensitive issues, if you have concerns why not have a chat with someone in school first before launching forth on your account?
What sort of examples are you thinking of using?

Some candidates have found really interesting methods for addressing this criteria. For example, one candidate explained how they dealt with a parent who entered the classroom uninvited and refused to leave. This was backed up with an EWT from the class teacher and head teacher explaining how the candidate dealt with the parent in a professional but appropriate way. I agree, a lot of the situations relating to this may be related to safeguarding or very sensitive issues.
I think looking at Risk assessment/management might be a good avenue for tackling this. For example, a child in a science lesson refuses to comply with H&S requirements to keep safety googles on during experiment. I observed a lesson recently where this happened. The TA eventually had to remove the child from the classroom, take him to the duty room and complete all follow- up paperwork. I think this type of situation could work well. i

Does anyone who has completed this standard have any comments as to how they completed it?

Being in Yr 6, part of my role is to prepare the pupils for high school, this entails completion of homework. I have had many situations (yes really) when the parent gives excuses as to why the homework has not been completed. Here is the conflict of professional standards. I uphold school rules and request homework - against parent who thinks they can break the rules. This can be applied across the school. Parents not abiding by the home school agreement? Our professional standards are to uphold the school rules, as a parent the parent agrees to uphold their parental responsibilities by supporting their child to do so. Where there is conflict here, there is a breech. As Karen says, backing up any conversations you may have with the parent with a witness statement is wise. I never have a conversation with a parent without being in earshot of another member of staff.

This is an excellent example. I know, its amazing how many parents try to get out of homework!
